Indian team parties in Durban

Source: Cricket Zone     Date: December 25, 2006

The Indian cricket team, touring South Africa, enjoyed a multi-cultural evening of dance and song at the home of the Indian Consul General Duran on Sunday night.

Skipper Rahul Dravid , in a brief address to about 140 guests at the party, said: "We are always pleased to play in Durban because of the warm hospitality." However, earlier, the captain had a bit of a tiff with a local cameraman, though it was amicably resolved.

As press photographers were jostling to take snaps of Dravid, former captain Sourav Ganguly and some other players, the skipper took exception to the cameraman who asked two women sitting at his table to stand behind him so that they could be photographed together.

Dravid cautioned the photographer to first seek permission because he (the photographer) did not know who the ladies were.

Eventually, Dravid allowed him to take the photograph with all of them seated.

The host of the evening, Consul General Harsh Bhasin Shringla said he was pleased to host the Indian team and hoped that they would do just as well as they had in the first test at the Wanderers last week.

"We are honoured to have the entire cricket team and the management here tonight," said Shringla.

The second test between India and South Africa starts here on Tuesday.
