'To survive this long is satisfying'
Source: Cricket Next Date: December 26, 2007
Gaurav Kalra: Who is writing your script, Lord's was the first and Melbourne will be the 100th?
Sourav Ganguly: I don't know who is writing my scripts. I'm happy to reach this far. To play 100 Test matches for my country is a huge milestone for any cricketer. I hope I do well for whatever time I play.
Gaurav Kalra: You look down that list, it's a six-man club so far and you will become the seventh and they all are legends as you will expect. What does that tell you, Kapil, Gavaskar, Dravid, Kumble, people like that and now Ganguly. What message you get from looking at a club like that?
Sourav Ganguly: I'm happy to be part of the club of 100 Tests and 300 one-dayers. That's also an important milestone, just happy to be a part of it.
Gaurav Kalra: When you look back on your journey, are you satisfied with the things you have achieved or do you wonder 100 Test matches but it could have been more for me?
Sourav Ganguly: There is still some time to go. So I'm sure if I keep performing I'll play a few more. But I'm happy to be a part of this. Professionally I'm happy because it takes a long time to get to 100 Test matches. And to survive for that period in any sport is satisfying and there is always this thought that I wish I could have done it better. But that will always remain in any athlete or sportsman's mind.
Gaurav Kalra: Was this a goal when you were younger?
Sourav Ganguly: I never thought I'll play one Test match for India. I was happy to be a part of my first Test at Lord's and kept on plying. You never think about these achievements because it takes a long time to get to 100 Tests and 300 ODIs. And as I said I'm happy to be here.
Gaurav Kalra: In your first Test at Lord's you got a 100 and now you are playing your 100th test match and you are used to writing fairytales these days, So is this going to happen again.
Sourav Ganguly: I hope good things happen.
